NOMETNE, a.k.a. Camp

For already over 60 years, a summer camp for Latvian kids has been operating at the New York Latvian Congregation’s property, Nometne, in the Catskill Mountains. The property is located between beautiful mountains and surrounded by the greenest woods, roughly two hours from New York City. Over the years, more than 3,000 Latvian children and their descendants have enjoyed summer camp in an immersive environment of Latvian language, culture, and a lot of fresh mountain air.

Our Nometne property offers programming for children of all ages, in Latvian or in English. The camp program is targeted towards kids ages 7-15, who get together for 2-week sessions (we offer two sessions in Latvian, and one in English). Parallel to these sessions, we offer week-long programming for kids aged 2-6 (along with their parents), in the affectionately named “Īkšķīši,” translating to Little Thumbs. We also offer a one week program dedicated to our older generation, Senči, in August. The family-oriented 3x3 seminar also happens in August at Nometne.

Both our summer camp programs and our Nometne property in general welcome all children, regardless if they are in our congregation.

Come visit and breathe in some crisp mountain air! We’ll be waiting for you, any time of year!
